Hans Christian Andersen had a soft spot for the Christmas tree, a relatively new phenomenon in his day, and it appears from his diaries that he himself took part in decorating many of them. His decorations displays a naive charme, that couples the spirit of christmas with the spirit of the carnival in a unique way.
