In Odenses old district you can experience a Christmas fair inspired by the time of the celebrated writer Hans Christian Andersen and by his famous fairy tales. A visit to the market will transport you back through time to the period when Hans Christian Andersen was made an honorary citizen of Odense (1867). The Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Fair covers an entire city district, with the streets and lanes as a memorable backdrop, with decorations, candles, market stalls and entertainment.

In the garden of the cultural history museum M�nterg�rden, the Hans Christian Andersen Parade will perform songs and scenes from the fairytales, and in the streets of the old district you can meet the well-known characters from the author's work, such as 'The Little Match Girl' or 'The Snow Queen'.

Furthermore, the museum will give you the opportunity to experience the everyday life of the 1870'ies, you are invited you inside the historic buildings to experience the handycrafts, that constituted the living of most ordinary peoples at the time.

At the square of the district, you can have fun in the Historic Amusement Park, by taking a ride on the roundabout, in the swing boats, the flip-flap and many more besides. In the old-fashioned Spiegeltent refreshments will be served while you enjoy the entertainment, that ranges from singing to magical performances.

Outside the Spiegeltent at the square, all sorts of articles will be on sale at the many market stalls, with their keepers dressed like 19th century people. Everywhere in the district you will come across performers, from the hurdy-gurdy man to choirs singing Christmas carols. Child heralds with drummers will announce the day's programme. Go for a ride round the district with the hackney coachman, and enjoy the view of the district and the crowd. 

The Hans Christian Andersen Museum and the Children's Cultural Centre 'The Tinder-Box'. The Hans Christian Andersen Museum celebrates the jubilee of the city of Odenses appointment of the writer as an honorary citizen in 1867 whith a special exhibition (opens December 6th ).  

A visit to the christmas fair will be a family event, with a stroll around the picturesque district offering museums, children's cultural centre, special events, experiences, entertainment and Christmas shopping.

The Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Fair will be unique, both nationally and internationally, in having a clear historical concept that uses the writer's fairytale world as its point of departure.
